Dhanusha- Rumors of Corona are spreading in the country and abroad, but Pooja did not know. Pooja Pariyar, who lives in Dhanusha district, was married at a young age. The financial situation of the family was also critical. Her husband is also sick. The family was small. Husband, wife, one son and one daughter.
The son grew up. The debt taken by the father came to the son. Pooja had no money to send her son abroad. She was hoping that the money would come from somewhere. She took a loan of 2 lakhs without even making any inquiry about microfinance institutions and sent her son to Malaysia. Now the son also pays the microfinance loan and arranges the house. When my father went abroad, the lockdown started. After that, I didn’t get a job.”
It was there that he first took a loan from the institution. In the beginning, she gave some installments by taking a loan from the village people. How did you always get by and only by borrowing money from others? She took that loan from Swabalamban Laghubitta. The interest on his loan is increasing day by day. But the income is zero. Now his son’s income is only 20-30 thousand. Husband is not able to earn. According to him, currently his debt has increased to 5 lakhs. Expressing her pain, she says, “The installments I paid before the lockdown and the money deducted from the insurance are not accounted for.”
She asked the microfinance institution for a few months as her son had no income. But he did not get the answer he wanted from the representative of the organization. It was January of 2079. The answer came from the employees of the microfinance, that they should sell their own kidneys to pay the debt. And when I asked where I can sell it. Dhalkema said. Anita and I went to Dhalke looking for a place to sell kidney. But we did not meet. Then returned home.
She initially joined Swabalamban Microfinance. To pay the debt of that organization, she joined Rashtra Utthan Laguvitt at that time. She has become a member and debtor of 14/15 organizations while joining another organization to pay the debt of Rashtra Utthan organization. She complained that the microfinance institutions added loans on top of loans saying that they did not have savings. There are many organizations that he has to pay loans to, so he doesn’t even know how much he owes to which organization.
She says that within 4 years of joining the microfinance institution, she has become a member and borrower in 14/15 institutions. Now the employees of small finance institutions have started coming and leaving after warning that they will lock the house. She said that along with the employees of the organization, her own neighbors in the village also gave torture to pay the debt. She says that she only has to commit suicide. She says, “Even if you say that you don’t have money, you will die and then the debt will disappear. Now you will die.” She doesn’t understand anything. It has been 5 years since my son went abroad. did not return He came to know that loans can be obtained from microfinance. “I can only pick up the phone that I don’t even know how to use.”
On the other hand, Chief Executive Officer of Swalamban Microfinance Institution, Narendra Bahadur Singh, says that none of his employees have behaved like that. He says, ‘We have not asked anyone to sell kidneys. If a staff member says such an inhuman act cannot be done. We only ask you to pay the loan.” Singh said that they only make requests to those who do not want to pay the loan even though it is their source of income. He also said that he has been asking his employees not to do such activities.
Since the last 2 years, the Sangharsh Samiti against microfinance has been opposed to microfinance. The committee has been alleging that the employees of microfinance institutions behave inhumanely, that microfinance institutions charge high interest rates, etc. Along with that, those who have taken loans from microfinance institutions are also withholding the installments that they have to pay while demanding loan forgiveness, while the Sangharsh Committee against Microfinance, which has been continuously protesting for 2 years, has been saying that it is going to hold a national level protest from this February. Currently, it is also widely reported that microfinance employees have suffered.
