Jhapa – Roshan Mallik, a school office assistant at Kakkadvitta Secondary School, has been arrested on charges of withdrawing 418,000 rupees from the school’s bank account through forgery. Mallik, a resident of Mechinagar Municipality-6, cashed checks from Nepal Bank Limited Kakkadvitta 20 times and withdrew the amount, said Krishna Kumar Pokharel, Police Inspector of the Area.
The school’s bank account was operated under the joint signatures of Principal Hariprasad Neupane and Accountant Vishnulal Pandey. However, the school assigned office assistant Mallik to handle regular payments from the bank and manage the checkbooks. When the school checked the bank funds to purchase a bus for student transportation, it was revealed that Mallik had been illegally withdrawing money.
Assistant Principal Madan Adhikari informed that after learning about the incident, a complaint was lodged at the local police office in Kakkadvitta on July 13th. Police arrested Mallik on the same day and began an investigation. Police Inspector Pokharel stated that Mallik is currently under investigation with an extended deadline. It was revealed that since July 7, 2080, Mallik had withdrawn money 20 times in a year by forging signatures on checks.
Mallik was found to have forged the signatures of both the principal and the accountant. He would issue checks in the names of school teachers, businessmen who had dealings with the school, and in his own name.
