Construction of Bijalpura–Bardibas Railway Section Resumes After Land Compensation Dispute Resolved

Banking News — Construction of the Bijalpura–Bardibas section of the Jaynagar–Bardibas railway project has gained momentum following the resolution of a long-standing land compensation dispute.

According to Paribesh Parajuli, General Manager of the Nepal Railway Company, construction contractor IRCON International has resumed work with the goal of extending railway services to Bardibas within the next two years.

Track construction is currently progressing rapidly in the districts of Dhanusha and Mahottari.

The Jaynagar–Bardibas railway line, which spans approximately 70 kilometres, is being developed in phases. Regular passenger train services have already been operating on the Jaynagar–Kurtha section since April 2, 2022 (Chaitra 19, 2078).

Meanwhile, the Nepal Railway Company has also begun identifying and reclaiming railway land that has been encroached upon in various locations. General Manager Parajuli said the company is conducting the search based on official land maps after discovering that railway-owned land had been occupied illegally.

The Jaynagar–Bardibas railway is a key cross-border railway project between Nepal and India, being developed under bilateral cooperation. The broad-gauge railway is expected to facilitate cross-border travel, boost trade and economic activities, and contribute significantly to the expansion of Nepal’s railway infrastructure.
