Banking News – Members of Nepal’s House of Representatives have called on the government to conduct an impartial investigation into the self-immolation attempt and subsequent death of Ganesh Nepali.

The demand was raised during Friday’s House session after lawmakers from the main opposition and other opposition parties stood in protest as the meeting began. Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal then allowed lawmaker Basana Thapa to address the House.

Thapa questioned why the government had remained silent over the incident involving 25-year-old Ganesh Nepali from Mugu, who attempted self-immolation on Thursday. She also criticized the government’s handling of public transportation, stating that simply repainting Sajha buses from green to blue would not improve public safety. Additionally, she alleged that government policies had created conditions forcing landless citizens into desperation.

Lawmaker Bhumika Limbu Subba said it was deeply unfortunate that Nepali had allegedly resorted to self-immolation after being fined NPR 10,000 over a motorcycle parking dispute. She urged the government to explain why citizens were being driven to such extreme measures.

Similarly, lawmaker Parbati Bik said no citizen should be forced to die in such a tragic manner and called on the government to provide compensation to Nepali’s family.

Lawmaker Radhika Ramtel also demanded a thorough investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, lawmaker Gyan Bahadur Shahi argued that poor and struggling citizens were finding it increasingly difficult to survive in the capital. He claimed that public services and state benefits disproportionately favored the privileged, adding that Nepalis were paying taxes comparable to those in Europe while receiving services similar to those of far less developed countries.
