Banking News – The government’s plan to revive the long-shuttered Hetauda Textile Industry has gained momentum, with preparations underway to begin trial production as the first step toward its long-term operation.

A study committee formed by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies on Monday submitted its report on the industry’s revival to Minister Gauri Kumari Yadav. The report outlines the progress made so far, measures taken to restart the factory, and the roadmap for its future operation.

According to the ministry, preparations for trial production have already begun. Based on the budget allocated by the Ministry of Finance, the Nepal Army has initiated repairs to the factory’s machinery and is making the necessary arrangements for test production.

The report states that, in line with the government’s directive, the Nepal Army has been tasked with commencing trial production at the Hetauda Textile Industry within the next two months. Preparatory work is being accelerated to meet the target.

Following a proposal from the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Finance released NPR 3.3 million to the account of the Nepal Army’s Directorate of Military Material Production during the first week of the Nepali month of Asar. The allocated budget is being used to carry out the initial activities required for trial production.

Since assuming responsibility for the project, the Nepal Army’s technical team has been deployed at the factory. The team has intensified cleaning work, procured the raw materials required for trial production, and begun repairing the existing machinery.

The report also notes that the Ministry of Infrastructure Development has been requested to undertake repairs to the factory’s buildings and other physical infrastructure based on a cost estimate of NPR 5 million. Meanwhile, the Hetauda Industrial District Management Office has completed repairs to the factory’s electrical system, ensuring the power infrastructure is ready for operation.

Initially, the factory will use its repaired existing machinery to conduct trial production. Based on the results of the trial phase, the government plans to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to determine the requirements for restoring the industry to full operational capacity.

Receiving the report, Minister Gauri Kumari Yadav said the revival of the Hetauda Textile Industry, a project of national significance, remains one of the government’s key priorities. She pledged that the ministry would provide the necessary coordination, facilitation, and support to ensure trial production begins within the targeted timeframe.
