Banking News – Nepal’s Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has urged businesses not to sell unlabelled, substandard, or adulterated essential food products, warning traders to comply with consumer protection laws.

In a public notice issued on Monday, the Department called on businesses to refrain from selling or distributing smuggled essential food items, beverages, clothing, and other consumer products through both physical outlets and digital platforms.

The Department specifically warned against the sale of daily essential food products that lack proper labels, fail to meet quality standards, or contain non-food adulterants, stressing that such practices violate existing laws and pose risks to consumers.

It also urged manufacturers, importers, transporters, warehouse operators, and retailers to conduct their businesses in full compliance with the legal obligations, conditions, and restrictions prescribed under Nepal’s consumer protection and trade regulations.

The Department emphasized that all stakeholders in the supply chain must ensure the quality, legality, and proper labeling of products before they are offered to consumers.
