Banking News – The Government of Nepal has decided to form a four-member task force to review the country’s public holiday system following the introduction of a two-day weekend.

The decision was made during a meeting of government secretaries chaired by Chief Secretary Govinda Bahadur Karki. The task force, to be coordinated by a Joint Secretary from the Ministry of Home Affairs, will assess the existing public holiday framework after the implementation of Saturday and Sunday as weekly holidays.

The committee will include representatives from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, and the Ministry of Finance.

According to the decision signed by Chief Secretary Karki, the task force has been instructed to submit its report to the Ministry of Home Affairs within 15 days.

The meeting also directed all concerned ministries to immediately begin drafting the bills identified for formulation during the current fiscal year.

In addition, the government decided that the relevant ministries should initiate the process of repealing outdated, irrelevant, and implementation-hindering laws to improve administrative efficiency and strengthen the legal framework.
