Nepal Telecom Expands 2G and 4G Services to Remote and Border Areas


Banking News – Nepal Telecom has expanded its 2G and 4G mobile services to several remote Himalayan and border regions, strengthening access to high-speed internet and reliable telecommunications across underserved communities.

The state-owned telecom operator announced that commercial 2G and 4G services have been launched in Kermi (Humla), Jimnang and Bahunbesi (Nuwakot), Timure (Rasuwa), and Bhagwanpur and Madhurijabdi (Bara).

The newly operational Kermi tower in Namkha Rural Municipality, Humla, is expected to benefit residents of Kermi, Chhyaduk, and Chhalagaun, along with communities along the Simkot–Hilsa road corridor. The network expansion also improves connectivity for the Tatopani Khola tourism area, local health facilities, government offices, schools, and monasteries.

In Bara District, the Madhurijabdi tower now provides coverage to Itahar, Auliya, Belahi, Sirsiya, and Kalaiyamai, including four nearby school zones. Meanwhile, the Bhagwanpur tower extends services to settlements around Paterwa, Hariharpur, Harnai Chowk, and Simraungadh, benefiting five school areas.

The Timure tower in Rasuwa enhances mobile connectivity for communities near Nepal’s northern border crossing, while the Jimnang tower in Nuwakot serves Wards 3 and 4 of Dupcheshwar Rural Municipality. The Bahunbesi tower further improves telecommunications services for residents of Tadi, Likhu, Chaughada, and surrounding areas.

Nepal Telecom said the expansion into geographically challenging Himalayan and Terai regions will provide local communities with high-speed mobile data and improved voice services, helping bridge the country’s digital divide.

According to the company, the improved telecommunications infrastructure is expected to support education, healthcare, commerce, public administration, and digital banking, while also promoting tourism and strengthening local economies in remote and border regions.
