FNCCI Forms Commodity Council to Strengthen Private Sector Representation


Banking News – The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has formed its Commodity Council, comprising representatives from various sectoral associations affiliated with the federation, with the aim of strengthening the collective voice of Nepal’s private sector.

The newly appointed members officially received their nomination letters during a ceremony held at the FNCCI Secretariat on Wednesday.

Speaking at the event, Acting FNCCI President Sur Krishna Baidya congratulated the newly appointed members and expressed confidence that the Commodity Council would further strengthen the unified voice of the private sector.

He said the council is expected to play an active and result-oriented role in advocating for policy reforms, investment promotion, expanding production and exports, and addressing issues faced by businesses and industries. Baidya also emphasized that the council would make a significant contribution to Nepal’s economic development by fostering effective coordination between the private sector and the government.

Similarly, FNCCI Vice President for District and Municipal Chambers, Dil Sundar Shrestha, described the Commodity Council as one of the federation’s key bodies, highlighting its important role in addressing sector-specific challenges.

Naresh Lal Shrestha, FNCCI Vice President and Chairperson of the Commodity Council, said the federation’s commodity member associations are the backbone of Nepal’s private sector. He expressed confidence that the council would help advance common industry and business agendas in a coordinated manner.

He urged council members to actively present their sectoral expertise, recommendations, and policy perspectives through FNCCI to safeguard and promote the interests of the private sector. He also encouraged members to conduct research based on data generated by the federation’s thematic committees to support evidence-based policy advocacy and problem-solving.

Associate Vice President and Chairperson of the Employers’ Council, Prabal Jung Pandey, said Nepal’s economy has yet to fully regain momentum and that the current investment climate remains challenging. He stressed that the Commodity Council would play a vital role in revitalizing economic activity by supporting business development and private sector engagement.

During the event, Acting President Sur Krishna Baidya and Commodity Council Chairperson Naresh Lal Shrestha handed over appointment letters to the newly nominated council members and advisors.

Meanwhile, the council’s meeting held on Wednesday appointed Bhakta Bahadur Hamal as Vice Chairperson of the Commodity Council.

The FNCCI currently has 142 commodity member associations representing various industries and business sectors across Nepal.
