Banking News – Nepal Police have arrested three individuals, including two Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, for allegedly defrauding members of the public by claiming to possess valuable antique copper coins.

The arrested individuals have been identified as 31-year-old Najbul Ansari and 24-year-old Sarfaraz Miya, both residents of Kishanganj, India. They were apprehended from the Goldhap area of Haldibari Rural Municipality-1, Jhapa.

In a separate operation, police also detained 35-year-old Sabir Miya of Itahari-8, Sunsari, from the Rupanchowari area of Barhadashi Rural Municipality-7, after recovering four coins bearing religious images.

According to police, Ansari and Miya allegedly lured victims in the Goldhap market area by displaying coins resembling old copper coins, featuring Lord Hanuman on one side and Lord Ram and Sita on the other, and falsely claiming they were highly valuable. Likewise, Sabir Miya is accused of deceiving people by showing coins bearing images of Hindu deities and collecting money through fraudulent claims.

Police said all three suspects are currently in custody, and further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, Jhapa Police have urged the public to remain vigilant against fraudsters who use old coins, religiously themed coins, or similar objects to lure victims with promises of unusually high value or profits. The police have also requested the public to report any such suspicious activities to the nearest police office or by calling the Police Control Room (100).
