Banking News – Nepal’s Flood Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has warned of an increased flood risk in Kathmandu Valley and more than 25 districts across the country, with water levels in several small rivers and streams expected to rise significantly on Monday.

According to the division’s latest flood forecast bulletin, small rivers flowing through Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, and Kavrepalanchok are likely to witness a sharp increase in water levels, posing a high risk of flash floods in these areas.

A moderate flood risk has also been forecast for small rivers in Taplejung, Jhapa, Dhankuta, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Udayapur, Dolakha, Sindhupalchok, Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, and Makwanpur.

Similarly, rivers and streams in Gorkha, Lamjung, Tanahun, Kaski, Parbat, Myagdi, Syangja, Palpa, Gulmi, Chitwan, Nawalparasi East, and Nawalparasi West are also expected to experience rising water levels, increasing the possibility of localized flash floods.

The Flood Forecasting Division said that, as of Monday morning, the water levels of Nepal’s major river systems including the Koshi, Narayani, Bagmati, Karnali, Mahakali, and their tributaries remain below the official warning level. Likewise, no immediate flood threat has been reported in the Kankai, Kamala, Babai, East Rapti, and West Rapti rivers.

However, the department has warned that small rivers across all seven provinces could experience sudden increases in water flow on Tuesday due to continued rainfall. Authorities have urged residents living near riverbanks and flood-prone areas to remain alert and follow official weather and flood advisories.
