Banking News – Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle held a meeting with the chief executive officers (CEOs) of all 20 commercial banks on Tuesday, seeking practical and actionable recommendations to help revive Nepal’s economy.

During the discussion, the Finance Minister requested the banking leaders to provide clear, implementation-oriented suggestions to support economic recovery and accelerate investment.
Emphasizing the government’s commitment to positioning the banking sector as a key partner in Nepal’s economic transformation, Dr. Wagle encouraged open dialogue to identify effective solutions to existing challenges.
He noted that the national budget has already outlined a clear roadmap for economic transformation, adding that the government’s immediate priority is the effective implementation of those policies.
According to the Finance Minister, the banking sector has a close understanding of the country’s economic conditions and market sentiment, making bankers’ insights and recommendations vital for successful budget implementation and addressing current economic challenges.
During the meeting, Dr. Wagle also expressed concern over several contradictory trends in the economy, stressing the need for a new approach to monetary policy, regulation, and supervision to address structural issues.
“It is a matter of concern that credit demand has not increased and businesses remain reluctant to invest despite historically low lending interest rates and ample liquidity in the banking system,” the Finance Minister said.
