Banking News – Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining peace, security, and law and order in Nepal, stating that the Ministry of Home Affairs remains actively engaged in ensuring public safety across the country.

Responding to lawmakers’ queries during a meeting of the National Assembly, Gurung emphasized that members of Parliament should exercise sensitivity while raising issues involving ongoing investigations and victims’ families.

He said repeatedly discussing incidents involving bereaved families in public forums may cause additional distress to those affected. Referring to an ongoing investigation, the Home Minister stated that it would not be appropriate to comment on the matter until the inquiry is completed.

“This issue is under detailed investigation,” Gurung said, urging lawmakers in both the House of Representatives and the National Assembly to avoid repeatedly raising the matter in Parliament. He added that members are welcome to seek clarification from him personally if needed.

The Home Minister also declined to comment on the Nirmala Pant case, citing the sensitivity of the investigation. In response, lawmaker Bishnu Bahadur Bishwakarma said he believed the minister’s remarks could undermine lawmakers’ parliamentary right to question the government, noting that asking questions and receiving answers is a fundamental part of parliamentary practice.

Speaking on a separate issue, Gurung highlighted the need for stronger coordination among the federal, provincial, and local governments to address mental health challenges in Nepal. He said the country has experienced significant social and political changes over the years, making collaborative mental health planning essential.

He further noted that the government is continuing efforts to prevent suicide through the 1166 national helpline, while working with all levels of government to strengthen mental health support services nationwide.
