Kathmandu – In today’s meeting of the Finance Committee, MP Dr. Swarnim Wagle suggested that there should be a law to impose monetary fines instead of imprisonment for banking offenses.

According to him, there is a global system of financial penalties for crimes like check dishonoring. Similarly, Dr. Wagle mentioned that the work of the Parliament and parliamentary committees has not been proceeding effectively.

He emphasized that the bills registered in Parliament and discussed in the committees should be finalized promptly. Another MP, Padam Giri, expressed the view that the legislative role of Parliament is weak. He noted that many bills are stalled because the committee meetings are not effective.
