Banking News – The District Administration Office, Kathmandu has issued a one-month ultimatum to privately operated hostels in the valley, directing them to improve standards and ensure full compliance with regulations. The administration issued a public notice following serious complaints that students were being subjected to inhumane treatment in hostels, excessive fees were being charged, infrastructure was inadequate, and drug abuse was on the rise.

During recent routine and surprise monitoring conducted by the administration, some hostels were fined up to Rs 3 lakh and even sealed. Citing incidents of student deaths due to altercations within hostels, lack of sanitation and food quality, and weak security arrangements, the administration has instructed all private hostel operators to comply with the 21-point provision within one month.
According to the administration, all private hostels must now mandatorily register and renew their registration with the relevant authorities. Hostels will be required to clearly publish the fees and rates for various services and collect charges only according to the published rates. Similarly, hostel operators must enter into mandatory agreements with students. In cases where hostels are operated in rented premises, the operator must have a mandatory rental agreement with the property owner as well.
