Banking News – The Government of China has transferred the cash assistance announced for flood victims in Nepal. Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming handed over a cheque of approximately Rs 30 crore (USD 2 million) to Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle during a meeting at the Ministry of Finance on Sunday.

Ambassador Maoming also handed over Rs 3 crore 6 lakh (USD 200,000) in cash provided by the Chinese Red Cross. While handing over the relief amount, Ambassador Maoming stated that both countries will work together to face the disaster caused by the massive calamity in the Himalayan region.

Ambassador Maoming informed that the President and Prime Minister of China had sent a message to the Government of Nepal stating that China always stands with Nepal during disasters. He also informed that other forms of assistance from the Chinese government have already started arriving in Nepal. Today alone, two Chinese aircraft unloaded 50 tons of relief materials including tents, blankets, sleeping bags, medical kits, and biscuits in Kathmandu, the Ambassador stated. He added that further assistance will continue.

He also informed the Finance Minister that efforts are underway to bring back Nepali citizens stranded on the Chinese side due to the flood in Rasuwa through the Korola border in Mustang. Ambassador Maoming also informed that a Chinese helicopter with skilled personnel arrived in Nepal yesterday for the rescue of those trapped in tunnels of hydropower companies, and additional skilled rescue technicians arrived in Nepal today.

He also informed the Finance Minister that the Chinese government is working rapidly to bring to Nepal large-capacity drones capable of carrying heavy loads, as requested by the Government of Nepal for rescue operations.

Receiving the assistance from the Chinese government on behalf of Nepal, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle expressed gratitude for the support provided by the Chinese government to Nepal during this unimaginable disaster.

Stating that both countries have suffered enormous human and physical losses due to the disaster, he expressed deep sorrow on behalf of the Government of Nepal for the losses suffered by China. Finance Minister Dr. Wagle paid tribute to Chinese citizens who lost their lives in the flood and extended deep condolences to their families. He stated that the devastating impact of global warming is being borne by Himalayan countries, and emphasized the need for cooperation between Nepal and China to address this challenge.

He also expressed expectations of significant support from China for the reconstruction of losses suffered by Nepal in this flood. During the assistance handover program held at the Finance Minister’s office, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming observed a moment of silence in tribute to citizens of both countries who lost their lives in the flood.
