Banking News – Free satellite internet service has been made available in the flood-affected areas of Rasuwa after telecommunications and internet infrastructure were damaged by the devastating flood in the Bhote Koshi River.

Dish Media Network Limited (DishHome), in coordination with the Nepal Telecommunications Authority and in collaboration with Eutelsat OneWeb, has launched alternative internet services in the affected areas. The company has stated that the service has been provided on a priority basis starting from Bhadau 20.

After communication services were disrupted due to the flood, satellite internet has been installed prioritizing government offices, security agencies, rescue and relief camps, and important coordination centers to facilitate rescue, relief, and coordination efforts, DishHome stated.

The service, based on Eutelsat OneWeb’s low-earth orbit satellite technology, will serve as an alternative to terrestrial telecommunications and internet infrastructure damaged by the flood. This is expected to support information exchange and real-time coordination among local administration, security agencies, rescue workers, and agencies involved in relief efforts.

According to DishHome, satellite internet services will be expanded to additional high-priority locations in the affected areas based on connectivity needs until telecommunications and internet infrastructure is fully restored.

The company has stated that it will coordinate with the Nepal Telecommunications Authority, government and security agencies, and local stakeholders to determine priorities for service expansion. DishHome stated that this initiative has been advanced with the objective of supporting rescue and relief efforts through alternative communication infrastructure during times of disaster.
