Banking News – Continuous rainfall, floods, landslides, storms, and lightning have damaged power transmission and distribution infrastructure in various parts of the country. Nepal Electricity Authority has stated that the natural disaster has affected power supply and also impacted the production of various hydropower projects.

According to the Authority, Towers No. 21 and 22 have been damaged in the section from Dana in Myagdi to Kushma in Parbat under the Kaligandaki Corridor 220 kV transmission line. Problems have also arisen in the transmission line of the Kushma-New Butwal section. Due to the problem in the transmission line, approximately 358 MW of electricity generation connected to the Kaligandaki Corridor has been affected, the Authority stated.

Keeping in mind the flood risk, production at hydropower stations including Kaligandaki, Upper Madi, Super Madi, Namarjun Madi, Seti River, Upper Dordi, Upper Marsyangdi, Middle Marsyangdi, Marsyangdi, and Modi has been shut down for safety.

Due to floods and landslides, transmission and distribution structures of 220 kV, 132 kV, 33 kV, and 11 kV have also been damaged. Technical and maintenance teams have been deployed for collecting damage details in affected areas, operating power supply through alternative arrangements, and immediate repair of damaged structures. The Authority has stated that arrangements have been made to ensure power supply through alternative feeders and available transmission and distribution structures as much as possible.

Due to heavy rainfall, floods, landslides, and blocked roads, technical teams are facing difficulties in reaching some areas. The Authority has stated that once roads and access routes open, additional teams and necessary equipment will be mobilized to intensify repair and power supply restoration work. According to the Authority, Nepal Electricity Authority has been mobilizing all available resources with high priority to restore power supply affected by the natural disaster as soon as possible.
