Banking News – Transportation has been affected on various national highways and major road sections across the country due to floods and landslides accompanying continuous rainfall. According to the Department of Roads, transportation has been completely obstructed on seven national highways, including the Prithvi Highway, BP Highway, and Kanti Highway that connect the Kathmandu Valley.

The Department has stated that transportation is operating one-way and partially on some road sections, including the East-West Highway. After a landslide occurred at Rajaiya in Makwanpur under the East-West Highway, the road has been operating one-way. Machines have been mobilized to remove the landslide and bring the road into full operation.

Under the Prithvi Highway, the road has been obstructed on both sides after landslides occurred at Krishnabhir, Tingrangkhani, Bange, and Chalise in Dhading. Police have stated that work to remove the landslide is underway. The Road Division Office Bharatpur has stated that the road was obstructed after a landslide with debris occurred at the Namsi Khola bridge on the Narayangadh-Muglin road section. Work to remove the landslide is ongoing.

Under the BP Highway, transportation services have been obstructed after landslides and floods swept away diversions at locations including Mamti, Piple, Daunne-Kalopul, Charso Besi, Katunje, and Chauki Danda. The Department has stated that it will be difficult to operate the road today due to continuous rainfall.

On the Kanti Highway, vehicular movement has stopped after landslides occurred at locations including Chapali and Takurche. Under the Siddhicharan Highway, after the road sank near Solu Khola on the Okhaldhunga-Salleri road, transportation has been temporarily operated by cutting the cliff. Under the Mid-Hill Highway, the road has been brought into one-way operation by removing landslides and fallen trees at locations including the Ghodabandhe-Hatiya section, Narethanti, Kaphal Thuta, Jhakristhan, and Chauraha in Baglung.

Under the Kaligandaki Corridor, although a landslide occurred at Raghuganga-2 Baiseri Siruwari in Myagdi, it is difficult to remove due to rainfall. At Jaimini-8 Belbagar, the road has been opened one-way for local transportation, while long-distance vehicles have not been allowed. In the Mulghat-Phidim section of the Tamor Corridor, the road is partially obstructed at Chhruwa Khola, Nawa Khola, and Ranigaun. The Department has stated that the road gets obstructed when the river flow increases and operates when it decreases.

The Kapurkot-Kharkhola-Tunikot section of the Rapti Highway is completely closed due to landslides. Transportation has also been affected due to landslides in the Gagne Khola, Ranka, and Banghesimal-Dahikhola sections of the Karnali Highway. Work is underway to remove the landslides and bring the road into operation at those locations.

There has been partial obstruction after landslides occurred at various locations of the Bhalubang-Chakchake-Liwang road. Small vehicles have been brought into operation with caution, but work to remove landslides and stones is ongoing. Under the Besisahar-Chame road, the road has been completely closed after stones fell at Khotro in Naso Rural Municipality of Manang. The Department has stated that it is difficult to clear the landslide.

According to Shubhraj Neupane, Spokesperson of the Department of Roads, equipment and technical manpower have been mobilized in affected areas to remove road obstructions and bring transportation services into operation as soon as possible. Since continuous rainfall and landslides are ongoing, the Department has urged travelers to travel only after understanding the condition of the road.
