Melbourne, Australia: A Nepali researcher has presented research on the environmental and biodiversity impacts of transportation at the ITS Global Summit 2026 in Melbourne, Australia, highlighting the growing participation of Nepali professionals in international research and sustainable development initiatives.
The research focused on developing transport mode-specific biodiversity factors and comparing the biodiversity impacts of different commuting modes through both land-use and climate change pathways. The study brings biodiversity considerations into discussions around sustainable transportation and provides a broader perspective on the environmental consequences of mobility choices.
The ITS Global Summit brought together researchers, practitioners, and professionals from around the world to exchange knowledge on transportation and intelligent transport systems. Discussions at the summit covered areas including congestion, road safety, transport system management, and the development of more sustainable mobility systems.

The Nepali researcher’s participation demonstrates how professionals from Nepal are increasingly creating opportunities and contributing their expertise to global platforms in fields such as research, technology, sustainability, transportation, and environmental innovation.
While transport discussions often focus on mobility efficiency, congestion, and safety, the presented research introduced biodiversity as an important dimension of sustainable transport planning. It also provided an opportunity to learn how cities across the world are responding to transportation challenges and transitioning toward more sustainable mobility systems.

The researcher said the experience provided an opportunity to share their work with an international audience, learn from researchers and practitioners from different parts of the world, and establish new professional connections.
Such international participation reflects the growing potential of Nepali researchers and professionals to take their knowledge and ideas to global platforms, while also creating opportunities for Nepal to contribute to emerging conversations around sustainable development and innovation.
