Banking News – The water level and flow of the Marsyangdi River, which had risen due to rainfall, is gradually decreasing. The District Administration Office has stated that there is no immediate flood risk in Lamjung. Chief District Officer Krishna Prasad Khanal informed that since the river’s water level is currently decreasing, there is no situation requiring immediate concern. According to him, although the water flow in the river a few days ago was nearly double compared to the floods and landslides that occurred in Asar-Shrawan, the situation is now gradually improving.

“The water level is decreasing now. A few days ago, the flow appeared nearly double compared to the floods and landslides in Asar-Shrawan, but now it is returning to normal,” he said. “There is no immediate risk. People can stay safely.”

Earlier, after a landslide fell into the Ghatte Khola in the Chame area of Manang, creating a risk of the stream being dammed and causing a flood, vigilance had been maintained in the riverine areas along the Marsyangdi River as well. Currently, it has been reported that the river’s water level is decreasing in the Lamjung section.

However, due to continuous rainfall on Sunday, the flood has caused damage to physical structures in various places in the district. Damage has also occurred to a motorable bridge over the Marsyangdi River between Besishahar Municipality-11 and Udipur area. After the bridge was damaged, vehicles traveling through that bridge to the center of Dordi Rural Municipality and areas including Besishahar-11 have been affected. Chief District Officer Khanal informed that he will visit the bridge and other locations damaged by the flood today along with technical staff.

Meanwhile, he stated that after inspection, repair and maintenance work on the bridge will be advanced as needed. After the water flow in the river increased, hydropower projects along the Marsyangdi Corridor were also affected. After the risk increased, the 70 MW Middle Marsyangdi and 50 MW Upper Marsyangdi ‘A’ hydropower projects had stopped power generation and released water completely on Sunday. Chief District Officer Khanal stated that preparations are underway to resume operation of both hydropower projects as the river flow and water level are currently decreasing.

He stated that the projects will come into operation after the river condition becomes safe. The risk to the projects had increased after the water flow in the Marsyangdi River increased and the amount of sediment, sand, and debris increased due to continuous rainfall. Keeping this in mind, power generation was stopped and water was released for safety. According to Chief District Officer Khanal, the river’s condition is now gradually returning to normal. He stated that although the water level is decreasing compared to a few days ago, vigilance must be maintained keeping in mind the rainfall situation.
