Banking News – US stock markets declined on Monday as oil prices and US government bond yields rose after US President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Yields on US government bonds also continued to rise. The yield on the 10-year bond rose by seven basis points to 5.25 percent. This is the highest of 2026 and the highest level since mid-2007. The yield on the 30-year bond has approached 5.6 percent, while the yield on the 2-year bond rose by more than five basis points to 4.916 percent.

After Trump rejected Iran’s seven-day proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, crude oil prices, which had risen sharply in early trading, declined somewhat. West Texas Intermediate crude traded at approximately $92.6 USD per barrel, while Brent crude rose by 0.92 percent to above $105.

Concerns among investors have also increased due to the possibility that the US central bank may raise interest rates further due to rising inflation risks. The market estimates approximately a 70 percent probability that interest rates will be increased by an additional 0.25 percent point at the meeting on October 28. On the corporate side, Nvidia’s share price rose by 1.68 percent. The company’s Board of Directors approved an additional $150 billion USD share buyback. With this, the company’s remaining share buyback authorization has reached $235 billion USD.

Meanwhile, Boeing’s share price fell by approximately 7 percent. The share came under pressure after the company informed about a software problem affecting the landing process of the 737 Max aircraft. Meta Platforms’ share price also fell by approximately 4.8 percent. MongoDB’s share price fell sharply after the company announced the appointment of MongoDB’s Chief Executive Officer to lead a new enterprise artificial intelligence initiative.

Similarly, Tesla’s share price fell by approximately 4 percent. The share came under pressure after the company postponed the program to unveil a new version of the Roadster. SpaceX’s share price also fell by more than two percent, although its Starship rocket successfully reached orbit for the first time during its 14th test flight. As the personal consumption expenditure price index for August will be published on Wednesday this week and the September employment report on Friday, investors’ attention is focused on upcoming economic data.
