Banking News – Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has stated that priority will be given to enhancing Nepal Police’s capacity and using modern investigation technology to control cyber and financial crimes. He informed that preparations are underway to bring a new police bill to replace the seven-decade-old law to make the police capable, professional, and modern.

Addressing the 71st Establishment Day of Nepal Police and the tribute ceremony to martyred police personnel, Home Minister Gurung stated that improvements will be made in the career development, service facilities, and performance evaluation system of police personnel. According to him, through the new police bill, proposals have been advanced to systematize the service period and career development of police personnel, as well as increase service facilities including housing and health. He stated that the transfer and promotion system will be made transparent, and a system will be developed to evaluate employees based on work and results rather than on the basis of pleasing superiors.

“We are working on a new police bill to reform the seven-decade-old law to make Nepal Police capable, professional, and modern,” he said. “A system will be established for impartial evaluation based on work and results, not by pleasing superiors.”

Home Minister Gurung directed police personnel to prioritize citizen-friendly behavior, impartial investigation, and accountability. Emphasizing the need to adopt a policy of zero tolerance against corruption, abuse of power, and favoritism, he stated that the police uniform should become a symbol of hope, trust, and security rather than fear.

“The government will always stand with police who do the right thing, but wrong actions will not be protected,” he said.

Mentioning that the process of digitalizing all police administration work has been advanced, he stated that investing in necessary physical infrastructure and technology is his priority. He stated that to meet the growing expectations of citizens, the police organization must make its working style more practical, professional, and technology-friendly.

He stated that citizens must be kept at the center from the registration of complaints and reports to every stage of investigation. He also directed that the principles of necessity, proportionality, and accountability be strictly followed during crowd control and use of force. Similarly, he informed that a policy has been advanced to utilize the experience, knowledge, and skills of retired security personnel in the interest of the state. Mentioning that risk allowance and snack expenses have been arranged for security personnel deployed in disaster rescue, he stated that a proposal has been advanced to increase police positions through the Organization and Management (O&M) Survey.
