Kathmandu – Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel, currently in the United States for the annual meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, met with Martin Raiser, the Vice President overseeing South Asia at the World Bank, on Wednesday.
According to the Nepali Embassy, the discussions primarily focused on creating employment opportunities in Nepal. The talks covered improving the business environment, implementing key infrastructure projects, and generating jobs through remittance flows.
In addition, the World Bank has agreed to support Nepal’s reconstruction efforts following natural disasters. A cooperation agreement has been signed between the Government of Nepal and the World Bank.
The agreement was signed by Finance Ministry Secretary Ram Prasad Ghimire and World Bank representative for Nepal, David Sislen. Under the agreement, the World Bank will provide $150 million in aid.
During the signing ceremony, attended by Finance Minister Paudel and Vice President Martin Raiser, it was announced that the funds will be mobilized to address health complications arising from natural disasters and climate change in Nepal.
