Kathmandu – Nepal Rastra Bank has begun selling silver coins for this year’s Tihar festival, available to the general public until Wednesday. Coins can be purchased at the bank’s Mint Division in Babarmahal, Kathmandu, between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
According to a notice from Nepal Rastra Bank, individuals are allowed to purchase a maximum of five silver coins: 25 grams and 10 grams with a cow design, 10 grams each with Lakshmi, Ganesh, and Gajalakshmi designs.
However, this year, citizens will be limited to purchasing only one gold Asharfi coin. The bank reported a shortage of 999.99 purity gold, necessary for the coins, making it challenging to provide adequate quantities. Despite this, Nepal Rastra Bank has scheduled Tuesday, November 13, for Asharfi sales.
The bank notice stated, “One Asharfi (2.5 grams) per person will be available on a first-come, first-served basis on Tuesday, November 13, until 4:00 PM, or as long as stock lasts.”
For purchasing Asharfi, commemorative, and medallion coins, original citizenship or an identity document with a photocopy is required. Payments for Asharfi and medallion coins can be made in cash or through QR code.
