Banking News — Mahalaxmi Development Bank, guided by its slogan “Strong Bank, Successful Partnership,” has awarded scholarships to five meritorious students under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

The bank, which has been providing accessible, reliable, and quality financial services to Nepali customers for the past 32 years, granted scholarships in memory of the late founding chairpersons of institutions that later merged into Mahalaxmi Development Bank: Laxman Babu Shrestha, Hari Prasad Giri, Ashok Shrestha, Navaraj Bahadur Singh, and Sitaram Prasai.
Each scholarship carries a grant of Rs. 50,000 and is intended to support academically talented students from community schools who come from underprivileged and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
The Late Laxman Babu Shrestha Mahalaxmi Merit Scholarship was awarded to Bipin Budha, a Grade 9 student at Shree Nandi Secondary School, Naxal, Kathmandu. The scholarship was jointly presented on July 1, 2026 (Asar 17, 2083) by Rajesh Babu Shrestha, son of the late Laxman Babu Shrestha, and the bank’s Chief Executive Officer through the school’s Principal, Gita Kafle.
Similarly, the Late Hari Prasad Giri Mahalaxmi Merit Scholarship was presented by the bank’s Director Shyam Sundar Rungta to Anisha Shah, a student at Nepal National Secondary School, Bhawanipur-8, Birgunj, Parsa.
The Late Navaraj Bahadur Singh Mahalaxmi Merit Scholarship was awarded by Director Sagar Malla to Gunjan Sunar, a Grade 9 student at Shree Sharada Secondary School, Dhangadhi, Kailali.
Likewise, the Late Ashok Shrestha Mahalaxmi Merit Scholarship was presented by the bank’s Bagmati Province Head to Sumina Lamichhane, a Grade 9 student at Amar Secondary School, Hetauda, Makwanpur.
The Late Sitaram Prasai Mahalaxmi Merit Scholarship had earlier been awarded in the month of Poush to Muskan Khatun, a student at Sitaram Community English School, Mechinagar-14, Jhapa.
The bank expressed confidence that such CSR initiatives would help ensure that deserving students are not deprived of education due to financial hardship.
