Woman Dies After Setting Herself on Fire in Kathmandu

Kathmandu: A 38-year-old woman, Kamala Acharya, who set herself on fire by dousing her body with petrol near the Bagmati River in Kageshwari Manohara Municipality-8, Kathmandu, has succumbed to her injuries.

Acharya, originally from Ratnanagar Municipality-12, Chitwan, and residing in Boudha Narayantar, carried out the act on Saturday at around 12 p.m. According to Nawaraj Adhikari, spokesperson for the Kathmandu District Police Range, she arrived at the site on a scooter (Ba35Pa 5818), poured petrol over herself, and set herself ablaze.

She was severely injured and rushed to Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital in Sankhu for treatment, where she passed away today.

Acharya’s body has been sent to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj, for an autopsy. The circumstances leading to the incident remain under investigation.
