Banking News – Nepal Capital Market Discourse 2026 is set to be organized by Banking Samachar, with NASA Securities as the main sponsor, aiming to hold comprehensive discussions on Nepal’s capital market, policy reforms, regulatory issues, investor rights and financial literacy.

Around 8 million investors are currently directly connected to Nepal’s stock market, representing approximately 26 percent of the country’s population. Similarly, the number of Nepalis with broker accounts stands at around 2.8 million.

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has a market capitalization of around Rs. 4.5 trillion. While daily trading volume had at times reached as high as Rs. 22 billion, the market is currently witnessing daily transactions of around Rs. 2 billion to Rs. 3 billion. Around 300 companies are listed on NEPSE, while approximately 90 brokerage companies, 32 merchant banks and three credit rating agencies are directly involved in the capital market.

Thousands of people are employed across these institutions, while companies and investors contribute billions of rupees annually to the government treasury through corporate income tax and dividend tax. Despite the market’s growing significance, issues such as share cornering, market manipulation and insider trading continue to pose challenges, particularly for new investors.

Several major policy issues, including the establishment of a new stock exchange, restructuring of NEPSE, NEPSE 30, and opening avenues for non-resident Nepalis (NRNs) to invest in the capital market, have remained unresolved for years. Similarly, issues surrounding commodity exchanges and dual licensing have yet to reach a conclusive resolution.

The Nepal Capital Market Discourse 2026 is being organized to facilitate broader discussions on these issues and identify possible policy and regulatory solutions.

The discourse will be held on Bhadra 21, 2083, at the Kathmandu Marriott Hotel. The event will feature an opening session and four thematic discussion sessions, along with a special Duologue session. The discussions will focus on regulation and policymaking, investor education and financial literacy, and technology and innovation in the capital market.

Representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON), Nepal Rastra Bank, Nepal Stock Exchange, CDS and Clearing, brokerage firms, merchant banks, commercial and development banks, credit rating agencies and listed companies are expected to participate in the discourse.

Members of the House of Representatives, along with international representatives from institutions including the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), are also expected to participate in the event.

The discourse aims to bring together regulators, policymakers, market participants, investors and international representatives to discuss the challenges and future direction of Nepal’s capital market and contribute to its development through policy dialogue, investor education and institutional reform.
