Banking News – The death toll from a mudslide in Risang, Bheri Municipality-2 of Jajarkot, has risen to three, while two people remain missing and 11 others have been injured following continuous rainfall in the area.

The landslide occurred at around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Shailendra Thapa, spokesperson for the Armed Police Force, the bodies of 54-year-old Uma Singh Khatri and 83-year-old Rati Khatri were recovered during the search operation.

Similarly, 52-year-old Kedar Karki of Saldhara, Bheri Municipality-2, who was injured in the landslide, died while undergoing treatment at Medical College, Kohalpur. Karki had been referred to Nepalgunj from Jajarkot District Hospital for further treatment.

The two people still missing have been identified as 70-year-old Bhim Bahadur Karki of Chisapani and 14-year-old Haris BK of Gairigaun, both in Bheri Municipality-2. Haris went missing after leaving his house following the landslide. Search and rescue operations for both individuals are ongoing.

Seven other people, including Ram Bahadur Shahi, Siddhibahadur Kami, Kamala Karki, Anita Karki, Yunis Shahi, Suntali Chadara and Bhadrakala Karki, were injured in the incident. Among them, 62-year-old Ram Bahadur Shahi and 61-year-old Bhadrakala Karki are reported to be in critical condition. They have been referred to Nepalgunj and Surkhet for further treatment, while three injured people have already been discharged.

The landslide has caused major damage to eight houses. Considering the continuing risk, around 200 residents of Bheri Municipality-2 have been relocated to the building of Tribhuvan Basic School.

A joint team from the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force Nepal and Nepal Police has been mobilized for search and rescue operations. Since the morning of August 16, a disaster-management-trained security team under the command of Armed Police Inspector Kamal Karki has been deployed at the site. Around 155 security personnel from the three security agencies are currently involved in the operation.

Authorities have warned of the possibility of additional landslides around the incident site as continuous rainfall persists.
