Banking News – Nepal Police’s Cyber Bureau has arrested one Nepali and one Indian national on charges of defaming a woman through social media, misusing obscene content, and causing mental distress.

The arrested individuals have been identified as 26-year-old Jawarul Haque, a resident of Madanpur, Guwahati, Assam, India, and 24-year-old Saroj Karki, a permanent resident of Champadevi Rural Municipality-6, Okhaldhunga, who is currently living in Kathmandu.
According to Cyber Bureau spokesperson Superintendent of Police Dilip Kumar Giri, preliminary investigations found that Jawarul Haque repeatedly pressured the victim for personal gain by misusing her explicit photos and videos. When his demands were not met, he allegedly published the content on TikTok in an attempt to defame the woman.
Similarly, Saroj Karki was arrested following a complaint alleging that, after ending a relationship with a woman he had met during his studies, he posted explicit content through the victim’s Facebook account, allegedly damaging her reputation, harassing her, and causing mental distress.
Police have obtained a five-day remand from the Kathmandu District Court to continue investigating both suspects under the Electronic Transactions Act, 2006.
The Cyber Bureau has urged the public not to misuse social media to violate another person’s privacy, reputation, or dignity, warning that such acts are punishable under Nepali law.
