Government Committed to Facilitating Exports of Nepali Footwear, Says Prime Minister Shah

Banking NewsPrime Minister Balendra Shah has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to facilitating the export of domestically manufactured footwear, stating that necessary policy support will be provided to strengthen the industry, promote import substitution, and generate employment.

During a meeting with officials and members of the Footwear Manufacturers Association of Nepal (FMAN) at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Prime Minister Shah said the government would work to promote Nepali footwear products in domestic and international markets while supporting the growth of local manufacturers.

He also announced that the federal, provincial, and local governments would coordinate to conduct skill-based training programs related to footwear manufacturing. In addition, the government plans to improve the tracking and record management of raw material imports based on the production capacity of domestic industries.

During the discussion, FMAN officials urged the government to curb illegal cross-border smuggling, bring untaxed domestic and imported products into the formal tax system, restrict the import of substandard footwear, and enforce mandatory quality testing for imported footwear products.

The association further expressed confidence that Nepal’s footwear industry could operate at full capacity if the government provides strong policy support, market protection, and an industry-friendly business environment.

The meeting was attended by FMAN President Suraj Banjade, Immediate Past President Rudra Neupane, General Secretary Nirmal Bhattarai, Advisor Kalidas Gautam, Member of the House of Representatives Bidushi Rana, and other association representatives.
