Banking News – Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has announced that it will seek support from the private sector for helicopters, drones and rafting equipment if required to strengthen search and rescue operations during the ongoing monsoon season.

The authority said the arrangement is based on pre-signed agreements with private sector organizations to ensure rapid deployment of emergency resources during floods, landslides and inundation.
Following forecasts of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, authorities have intensified disaster preparedness in coordination with security agencies, as 21 districts face an elevated risk of floods, landslides and flash flooding.
Acting Executive Chief Pradeep Kumar Koirala said four Nepal Army helicopters have already been stationed in Kathmandu, Itahari, Bhairahawa and Surkhet for immediate emergency response. If additional resources are needed, the authority will request helicopters, drones and rafting equipment from private operators under existing cooperation agreements.
Under the memorandum of understanding with the Airlines Operators Association of Nepal, helicopter services within the Kathmandu Valley will be provided free of charge, while flights outside the valley will be available at minimum operational cost.
Similarly, the agreement with the Drone Association of Nepal provides for the free deployment of drones, related equipment and certified pilots during disaster response, with the authority covering travel and accommodation expenses for deployed personnel.
The agreement with the Nepal Association of Rafting Agencies (NARA) also ensures the free provision of rafts, rescue equipment and trained personnel for emergency search and rescue operations, transportation of relief supplies, medicines and rescue teams during flood-related disasters.
The cooperation agreements will remain valid for one year and may be renewed through mutual consent, strengthening Nepal’s disaster response capacity through public-private collaboration.
