Banking News – Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Ranju Darshana has come under heavy criticism and online trolling following her remarks about citizens whose gold was allegedly looted after being pledged for loans at Nepal Rastra Bank.
Speaking during the zero hour of the House of Representatives meeting on Bhadra 2, Darshana said citizens who had pledged gold at Nepal Rastra Bank and taken loans were facing difficulties after their gold was looted during the Gen Z movement. She urged the government to take necessary steps to address the concerns of the victims, saying they had neither received their gold back nor obtained compensation for its value.

Following her remarks, Darshana has faced significant criticism and trolling on social media. Many users have questioned whether members of the general public can pledge gold and obtain loans directly from Nepal Rastra Bank, while others have criticized her statement as inconsistent with the facts. Some social media users have also shared satirical posts and memes targeting the statement.
“After gold was also looted in the incident of Bhadra 24, the victims have neither received their gold back nor received its value. Their grievances should be heard,” Darshana said in Parliament.
However, during the Gen Z movement, gold was reportedly looted from Rastriya Banijya Bank, rather than Nepal Rastra Bank.
As the country’s central bank, Nepal Rastra Bank does not provide personal loans to the general public against pledged gold. Gold-backed loans are provided by commercial banks and other financial institutions. Darshana has consequently faced further criticism, with some questioning her understanding of the central bank’s role and functions.
