Banking News – Police have arrested four individuals on charges of deceiving the general public by claiming to be employees of Khalti wallet and stealing money from bank and wallet accounts. District Police Range Bhaktapur arrested Subham Kumar Jha, Aniket Kumar Yadav, Pawan Kumar Chaudhary, and Rishi Ganga.
According to police, they used to contact various individuals by phone, WhatsApp calls, and messages, claiming to be Khalti employees. The investigation has revealed that they used to deceive the general public by luring them with claims such as needing to update KYC, the wallet account being closed if not updated, linking bank accounts to Khalti, providing an e-speaker that announces when money is received in a business account, and making fund transfers free of charge.

Police have stated that they would ask the contacted individuals to share their screens, obtain the OTP codes for Khalti wallet and mobile banking, and misuse them to gain unauthorized access to various bank and wallet accounts and transfer money, committing fraud. Police recovered mobile phones and SIM cards found in their possession. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dipak Kumar Karki, Spokesperson of District Police Range Bhaktapur, made public the 18 mobile phones and WhatsApp numbers used in the fraud.
Police have stated that these numbers were used to contact people claiming to be Khalti wallet employees by phone, SMS, or WhatsApp, and to ask them to update KYC, share OTPs and passwords, or share their screens. Karki has urged the public to inform the police if fraud was attempted or if financial loss was suffered through the concerned numbers.
