Banking News – Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Manoj Kumar KC has expressed gratitude to the Government of Nepal for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the Nepal Police organization and stated that he will work committed to the security, dignity, and service of citizens. Stating that he will lead the organization in full compliance with the constitution and laws, he clarified that there will be no compromise on the dignity, professionalism, and impartiality of the police organization. He stated that his tenure should be evaluated based on what kind of service he was able to provide to Nepali citizens.

Noting that crimes including cyber fraud, financial crime, cryptocurrency transactions, deepfakes, and misleading information have emerged as new challenges for the police at present, IGP KC emphasized the need to make Nepal Police technology-friendly and more capable to control such crimes. He also pointed out the need to enhance disaster management capacity.

Noting that problems including lack of resources and physical infrastructure within the police organization, long working hours, and questions of impartiality in transfers and promotions exist, he stated that such challenges will be addressed through systemic reform. He stated that he has taken those problems as opportunities for improvement. Noting that Nepal Police has already proven its capacity during the armed conflict, earthquakes, the COVID-19 pandemic, and various international peace missions, IGP KC stated that the organization has sufficient experience, manpower, and a spirit of service.

He said:

“We have experience, we have manpower, we also have the will to serve, and to do all this, we must make our manpower specialized and high in morale.”

He informed that prioritizing addressing the grievances of police personnel, a mechanism will be brought into immediate implementation for that purpose. He stated that other organizational reform plans will also be advanced gradually.

Noting that the relationship with citizens is the most important foundation in modern police service, IGP KC requested the government’s support in ensuring necessary resources, legal clarity, and functional autonomy to make the police organization influence-free, professional, and accountable. IGP KC’s commitments appear to have placed citizen-centered police service delivery, organizational reform, technology-based crime control, and enhancing the morale of police personnel as the main priorities of his upcoming tenure.
