Banking News – Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has directed security agencies to immediately collect detailed information on both loan shark (meter byaj) victims and perpetrators following his meeting with victims who are marching on foot from Janakpur to Kathmandu in protest.

The minister met the victims in Nijgadh, Bara, where he listened to their grievances and instructed authorities to begin the data collection process on the spot. Following the directive, Nepal Police immediately started gathering information on individuals allegedly involved in illegal loan sharking activities.
After hearing the victims’ concerns, Home Minister Gurung held a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Balendra Shah, briefing him on the situation and discussing possible measures to address the issue.
The minister spent nearly six hours listening to the victims, many of whom claimed they had failed to receive justice through security agencies and the judicial system. Gurung pledged that the government would formulate the necessary laws and regulations to effectively address the long-standing problem of illegal loan sharking.
Speaking briefly to journalists after the meeting, Gurung said that the process of delivering justice to the victims has now begun and that further legal and administrative action would follow once the information collection is completed.
The victims, who began their march from Janakpur on Asar 25, demanding justice over alleged exploitation by loan sharks, have temporarily halted their journey in Nijgadh following the meeting with the Home Minister.
Later in the evening, Home Minister Gurung held discussions with senior security officials, focusing on ongoing loan shark-related cases and security-sensitive issues, according to officials familiar with the meeting.
