Parliamentary Committee Directs Government to Curb LPG Black Marketing

Banking News – The House of Representatives’ Industry, Commerce, Labour and Consumer Welfare Committee has directed the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies to take immediate measures to control black marketing, artificial shortages, and other irregularities in the supply of liquefied petroleum (LPG) gas.

During a committee meeting held at Singha Durbar on Wednesday, Committee Chair Rahbar Ansari instructed the ministry to conduct a study on the feasibility and impact of expanding a piped gas distribution system as a long-term solution to ensure a stable and reliable gas supply. The committee has asked the ministry to submit the findings within seven days.

The committee also directed the Ministry, Nepal LP Gas Industry Association, and Nepal Oil Corporation to carry out regular inspections and ensure strict quality testing of LPG cylinders to minimize potential risks to consumers arising from the continued use of old and worn-out cylinders.

The directives are aimed at strengthening consumer protection, improving supply management, and enhancing the overall safety and reliability of Nepal’s LPG distribution system.
