Banking News – Bechan Jha, who had been in judicial custody for more than two years in connection with the fake Bhutanese refugee scam, has been released from Sundhara Prison on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the Kathmandu District Court sentenced Jha to one year in prison and imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000 in a fraud case.
However, as Jha had already spent more than two years in custody while awaiting trial, he was released after having served more than double the prison term handed down by the court, according to Court Spokesperson Shiva Khatiwada.
Jha was arrested on June 27, 2024 (Asar 14, 2081 BS) and had remained in judicial custody at Sundhara Prison pending the court’s verdict.
