Nepal Urges Continued US Trade Preferences to Expand Market Access for Nepali Products

Banking News – Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Gauri Kumari Yadav has urged the United States to ensure continued market access for Nepali products by extending trade preferences under the Nepal Trade Preference Program.

During a courtesy meeting with US Chargé d’Affaires Scott Urbom at the ministry on Thursday, Minister Yadav requested the renewal of the Nepal Trade Preference Program, noting that the facility, which began in 2015, expired in December 2025.

The minister also emphasized the need to activate the bilateral mechanism under the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) through regular dialogue to further promote trade and investment between Nepal and the United States.

Highlighting the government’s efforts to strengthen the investment climate through policy and legal reforms, Yadav said Nepal is keen to attract greater US investment in key sectors, including hydropower and renewable energy, tourism infrastructure, agricultural processing, manufacturing industries, and the digital economy.

According to the minister’s secretariat, Scott Urbom expressed the United States’ positive stance toward continuing trade preferences and promoting bilateral investment, reaffirming support for strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.
