Banking News – Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa, objecting to the working style of the current government, has accused the government’s arbitrariness and illegal activities of crossing the limit. President Thapa warned that the Congress will not remain silent against interference in press freedom, civil rights, and democratic values.
At a press conference organized at the party central office in Sanepa on Sunday, Kartik 15, President Thapa raised questions about the government’s working style, terming the incident of police entering the offices of media outlets and arresting journalists as seriously objectionable. President Thapa stated that the incident of police entering the offices of media outlets and arresting journalists over the publication of news reminded him of the incident of security personnel entering a media house during the royal regime.

He stated that even though the arrested journalists were released after public pressure, the incident should not be limited merely to the matter of some journalists being arrested and released. He said that this has raised a serious question about how the state understands its authority, citizens’ fundamental rights, freedom of expression, and press freedom.
“We saw police entering some media houses and arresting journalists on the basis of the publication of some news. This incident reminded us of the royal era. After protests and questions were raised, the journalist colleagues were released. Some colleagues were arrested and released; it does not end here and should not end here — this is the Nepali Congress’s stance,” President Thapa said.
President Thapa commented that it is difficult to believe that police entered the offices of media outlets without the direction of the political and administrative leadership of the police. He urged civil society, media outlets, and political parties not to normalize such a tendency of the government.
