Banking News — Nepal Police has arrested a man on charges of allegedly using artificial intelligence (AI) to produce a forged driving licence and fake vehicle tax payment receipt.

The suspect has been identified as Basant Bhujel, a resident of Kageshwori Manohara Municipality–5, Thali, Kathmandu.
According to police, a joint team from the Maharajgunj Police Circle and the Maharajgunj Traffic Police Circle stopped a private vehicle bearing registration number Ga 2 Cha 8579 on Sunday evening after it was found parked in a no-parking zone near the gate of Kanti Children’s Hospital.
During the inspection, officers found that the smart driving licence and tax payment receipt presented by Bhujel could not be verified through the Department of Transport Management database or the Traffic Violation Record System (TVRS). A subsequent search led to the recovery of another forged driving licence from his possession.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly used AI tools to create the counterfeit documents, police said.
Bhujel has been remanded in custody for four days following an order from the Kathmandu District Court, and the Maharajgunj Police Circle is continuing its investigation into charges related to document forgery.
