Action Begins Against Absentee Government Employees, Starting with NARC


Banking NewsMinister for Agriculture, Forests and Environment Gita Chaudhary has initiated disciplinary action against government employees who have remained absent from their duties for extended periods, beginning with the Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC), where she also serves as Chairperson.

As part of the initiative, two employees who had been absent from their offices for a prolonged period have been dismissed from government service.

Minister Chaudhary said the action is in line with the government’s commitment to promoting good governance and improving public service delivery. She stated that employees who occupy sanctioned positions but fail to report to their assigned offices and perform their official responsibilities will face disciplinary measures.

She further said that the campaign, which has begun at NARC, will be expanded to include departments, research centres, and other agencies operating under the Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Environment to identify and remove similarly absentee employees.

The employees were dismissed in accordance with the Employee Administration Regulations, 2062, with the termination taking effect from the date they were first recorded as absent.

According to the minister, NARC had previously sent official notices to the employees’ registered home addresses and published public notices in national daily newspapers, asking them to report within seven days.

However, after they failed to respond within the stipulated period, the Executive Committee of NARC decided to terminate their employment.

The dismissed employees are Parbati Joshi, a Technical Officer (Sixth Level) at the Agricultural Research Directorate in Tarahara, Sunsari, and Namita Bhattarai, an S-1 Scientist at the National Biotechnology Research Centre, Khumaltar, Lalitpur.
