Retired Headmaster Builds Successful Commercial Farm on 70 Ropanis in Dadeldhura

Banking News – A retired school headmaster in Dadeldhura has emerged as a model commercial farmer, generating millions of rupees in annual turnover through modern agriculture after retiring from the education sector.

Kamal Singh Jhukal, 66, of Jhukal Village, Ward No. 9 of Amargadhi Municipality, established the Gadlek Multipurpose Agriculture Farm in Ward No. 8, Aali, after retiring from his position as headmaster of Bhumiraj Primary School.

Spread across approximately 70 ropanis of land, the farm has become one of the district’s notable commercial agricultural ventures. Jhukal has invested around NPR 22 million in land acquisition, irrigation facilities, infrastructure development, and overall farm management.

The farm dedicates 25 ropanis to seasonal and off-season vegetables, another 25 ropanis to fruit cultivation, while the remaining land is used to produce fodder for livestock. To ensure year-round production, the farm is equipped with a lift irrigation system.

Having engaged in commercial farming for the past five to six years, Jhukal recorded an annual turnover of approximately NPR 2 million last year. After deducting operational expenses, he earned a net profit of around NPR 500,000.

According to Jhukal, the farming enterprise has not only provided him with a sustainable source of income but has also created employment opportunities for local youth.

“Rather than remaining idle after retirement, I chose to engage in productive work through agriculture,” he said. “With dedication and hard work, farming can become a reliable source of income.”

His agricultural venture has received technical and institutional support from the Agriculture Knowledge Centre, Dadeldhura, the Prime Minister Agriculture Modernization Project Implementation Unit, and the Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Expert Centre.

The Agriculture Knowledge Centre has also provided the farm with 500 walnut saplings and 100 kiwi plants to support the expansion of fruit cultivation.
