Banking News – Agricultural imports through the eastern border point at Kakadbhitta have exceeded Rs 24 arab in the past fiscal year. According to Nandakishor Singh, Chief of the Plant Quarantine Office, Kakadbhitta, agricultural produce worth Rs 24 arab 26 crore 74 lakh – including food grains, pulses, fresh vegetables, and fruits – was imported into Nepal from India, China, Australia, and Bangladesh during the fiscal year 2082/83.
Among the imported agricultural items, food grains and pulses accounted for the largest share, Singh informed. Rice worth Rs 24 crore 23 lakh 13 thousand and millet worth Rs 18 crore 83 lakh were imported from India. Similarly, Australia and India supplied 1,996 metric tons of chickpeas valued at Rs 18 crore 27 lakh 99 thousand, while 796 metric tons of moong dal from Australia worth Rs 10 crore 88 lakh 54 thousand entered the country, according to the office’s statistics.

In fresh vegetables, notable quantities of tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, and pumpkins were imported from India. Over the one-year period, tomatoes worth Rs 14 crore 39 lakh 66 thousand, cucumbers worth Rs 7 crore 90 lakh 64 thousand, and bell peppers worth Rs 3 crore 24 lakh 35 thousand were imported. Among fruits, apples, watermelons, and pears were primarily brought in from India and China. Apples from India and China totaled Rs 29 crore 59 lakh 72 thousand, while watermelons from India accounted for Rs 14 crore 24 lakh 81 thousand, the Plant Quarantine Office reported.
