Kathmandu – Hackers have reportedly stolen over NPR 30 million from the bank account of Citizens Bank International. The incident came to light following a complaint filed by F1Soft, a company specializing in software and technology development, alleging that NPR 34.2 million was missing from its bank account.

Based on the complaint, authorities have launched an investigation into the matter. It was revealed that the funds were repeatedly transferred to various accounts via online banking over the past two months. Citizens Bank, however, stated that their software systems were secure and suggested that the issue arose due to the account holder sharing their password.

This incident highlights a growing trend of organized cybercriminals targeting the banking sector, according to police. Bankers have expressed concern over the evolving techniques used by hackers, which pose significant challenges to the financial industry. Notably, a cyberattack on Nepal Rastra Bank’s server was also reported recently, further underscoring the sector’s vulnerability.
