Foreign Minister Khanal Reaffirms Susta and Kalapani as Nepalese Territory

Banking News — Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shishir Khanal, has reaffirmed the government’s position that Susta and Kalapani are integral parts of Nepal.

Speaking during Wednesday’s meeting of the National Assembly of Nepal, Khanal responded to a question raised by lawmaker Bishnu Bahadur Bishowkarma regarding reported obstruction by India’s Border Security Force to embankment construction along the Narayani River in Susta and the government’s plans to resolve the long-standing border dispute.

Khanal stated that the border between Nepal and India is defined by the Treaty of Sugauli. He noted that border demarcation remains pending in the areas of Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh, Kalapani, and Susta.

The minister acknowledged that embankment construction in Susta was temporarily halted after the Indian side requested that the work proceed only through mutual coordination.

“We are clear that these territories belong to Nepal, and we have historical evidence, maps, and supporting documents to substantiate our claim,” Khanal said. He added that the government remains committed to resolving border-related issues through diplomatic dialogue.

Khanal also said the government is vigilant in safeguarding Nepal’s national interests and sovereignty while pursuing balanced relations with neighboring countries.
