Bird Flu Risk Persists in Kathmandu Valley Despite Nationwide Progress

Banking News – Although bird flu outbreaks have been brought under control in most parts of Nepal, the infection continues to pose a significant risk in the Kathmandu Valley and Kavrepalanchok, according to the Department of Livestock Services.

The department said the disease has been fully contained in districts including Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Mahottari, Bara, and Chitwan, while the situation remains concerning in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, and Kavrepalanchok.

Senior Veterinary Officer Dr. Mukul Upadhyay said bird flu infections in the three Kathmandu Valley districts remain unchanged, while the outbreak is spreading more rapidly in Kavrepalanchok.

According to the department’s latest data, authorities have culled 754,500 birds, destroyed 1,091,303 eggs, and disposed of 243,635 kilograms of poultry feed nationwide as part of disease control measures.

Of that total, 286,277 birds, 179,064 eggs, and 74,000 kilograms of poultry feed were destroyed in the three Kathmandu Valley districts and Kavrepalanchok alone.

Dr. Upadhyay said field inspections have been conducted in high-risk areas, and reports have been prepared in coordination with federal and local governments. Based on those assessments, authorities are continuing to cull infected poultry and implement additional disease-control measures to contain the outbreak.
